Kornhauser, PhD. 1979: The U.S. Interstate Commerce Commission (now the Surface Transportation Board) begins contracting with ALK to enhance its Carload Waybill Sample. 1979: ALK begins its practice of merger and acquisition analysis for the North American railroad industry. 1981: ALK is incorporated. 1981: ALK begins its practice of railcar utilization analysis, in support of Conrail’s application to the government to deregulate boxcar traffic. 1982: ALK begins licensing its mainframe transportation analysis software to the major railroads. 1986: ALK releases the first version of PC*MILER, truck-specific routing, mileage and mapping software. PC*MILER is now the industry standard for mileage used by over 21,000 transportation and logistics companies, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. General Services Administration. 1986: ALK develops a locomotive management optimization system for Burlington Northern railroad, later adapted to Union Pacific railroad and winner of the 1993 Progressive Railroading Productivity Award for Management Techniques and Practices. 1990: ALK forms TravRoute, a consumer software division. 1993: TravRoute releases Road Trips, a city-to-city mapping software program. 1994: ALK releases PC*Rail (now known as PC*MILER|Rail), the first rail routing, mileage and mapping software product. 1995: ALK releases PC*FuelTax (now known as PC*MILER|FuelTax), the first fuel and mileage tax reporting software product with electronic tax forms and rates for all jurisdictions. 1995: TravRoute releases Road Trips Door-to-Door, the first consumer software product to offer door-to-door driving directions on one CD. 1995: ALK launches the release of four Windows-based integration products: PC*MILER|Connect, PC*MILER|Mapping, PC*MILER|Spreadsheets PC*MILER|BatchPro providing integration capabilities into third-party products and high volume batch processing capabilities. 1996: ALK performs traffic diversion and operating plan analyses as critical input to negotiations between CSX and Norfolk Southern in determining the final division of Conrail assets and securing government approval of the transaction. 1997: TravRoute releases CoPilot, the first GPS navigation system to offer door-to-door driving directions with automatic rerouting and voice navigation. 1997: ALK releases PC*MILER/Europe (now called PC*MILER|Worldwide), the first commercial transportation routing, mileage and mapping solution for Eastern and Western Europe representing the Trans-European highway system. 1997: ALK releases PC*MILER|HazMat, providing the North American commercial trucking market a routing, mileage and mapping solution that ensures compliance with nationwide hazmat, governmental and DOT regulations. 1998: The U.S. Department of Defense chooses ALK’s PC*MILER to replace all distance calculation products used within DoD including Rand McNally-TDM's MileMaker and the Household Goods Carriers' Mileage Guide. 1998: TravRoute wins the first of four consecutive Consumer Electronics Association Innovations awards for excellence in design and engineering. 1998: ALK releases PC*MILER|Streets, the industry's first street-level routing, mileage and mapping software designed to provide dock-to-dock driving directions over truck-specific routes. 1998: ALK release PC*MILER|Worldwide, a product that merged PC*MILER|Europe's database into a borderless routing, mileage and mapping software covering the entire international highway network. 1998: ALK release PC*MILER|TCP/IP, providing universal platform compatibility for PC*MILER users running on Windows personal computers over a TCP/IP network. 2000: TravRoute releases Pocket CoPilot, the first GPS navigation system to offer door-to-door driving directions with automatic rerouting and voice navigation on a Pocket PC. 2000: ALK releases eMILER.com, the online version of PC*MILER providing North American highway routing, mileage and mapping. 2000: ALK releases FleetCommander (now known as PC*MILER|FleetCommander), real-time fleet visualization software, including graphical decision support tools and reports. 2001: The U.S. General Services Administration selects PC*MILER as their standard for determining highway mileage for Federal civilian agency freight and household goods shipments. 2001: ALK releases CoPilot Truck, the first and only in-cab GPS navigation and route guidance system providing truck-specific routing. 2002: TravRoute partners with Compaq UK and releases Pocket CoPilot iNS which incorporates real-time traffic into the Pocket CoPilot routes. 2002: TravRoute releases Pocket CoPilot Europe providing street-level routing across Europe. 2003: Pocket CoPilot becomes the first product of any kind to successfully complete "Certified by HP" testing for iPAQ Pocket PC options and accessories. 2003: ALK introduces its "Live" technology as the next step in the evolution of navigation systems - a built-in communications capability that enables information-driven features such as real-time traffic, vehicle location, messaging and other smart alerts. 2003: ALK subsumes its TravRoute division in North America, and forms a wholly-owned subsidiary, ALK Technologies, Ltd. to further its efforts in Europe. 2004: ALK releases ALK|FleetSuite Tolls (now called PC*MILER|Tolls), the first software to calculate exact dock-to-dock toll costs for commercial vehicles in North America. 2004: ALK releases CoPilot SmartPhone in Europe and North America, the first turn-by-turn GPS navigation software for Microsoft Windows Mobile cellphones. 2004: ALK launches ALK|FleetSuite Directions, ALK|FleetSuite Mapping and ALK|FleetSuite ETA/OoR a suite of software for based on a Microsoft XML Interface. 2004: ALK launches Multi-Version Switch, a high-end integration tool for PC*MILER|Connect users to simultaneously support multiple versions of the product installed on one server or on several different servers. 2005: ALK releases CoPilot Live for the Linux platform and continues to satisfy global GPS navigation demands. 2005: ALK Hosts First Technology Summit in Princeton, NJ. 2005: Nextel, ALK Technologies and Motorola Launch PC*MILER|Mobile: The First Spoken, Truck-Specific GPS Navigation Solution for Mobile Phones. 2005: Microsoft Worldwide Partner of the Year 2005 - Mobility Solutions, Sales & Marketing. 2006: ALK Technologies wins Navteq LBS Global Challenge at 3GSM with its new web based Fleet Management system- CoPilot FleetCenter 2006 : CoPilot's product line continues to expand by being first to market with device specific software.
