PC*MILER|Rail-BatchPro gives users the power and flexibility to handle tasks involving the processing of large volumes of origin/destination records. Instead of entering and running routes one-by-one, a large database of origin/destination records created using an electronic spreadsheet program, a database management program, or a text file editor, can be processed automatically through the user interface.

Simply stated, the module works as follows: users create an input file of origin/destination pairs, users set up PC*MILER|Rail-BatchPro according to their routing and output preferences, PC*MILER|Rail-BatchPro then produces an output file based on those preferences. There are eight types of output files that can be created from an input file. They are as follows:

• .OUT File - provides the mileage for each O-D pair as well as the routes with railroad and junction sequence for Auto Routes.
• .LOG File - captures route preferences and other settings along with file names and time of the run.
• .CAR File - summarizes mileage by railroad carrier.
• .DET File - summarizes mileage by both car ID and railroad.
• .CID File - summarizes mileage by car mark and number.
• .STM File - summarizes empty, loaded and total mileage by state/province/estado.
• .RRS File - summarizes empty, loaded and total mileage by railroad and state/province/estado.
• .IDS File - summarizes empty, loaded and total mileage by car ID and state/province/estado.
