PC*MILER|Rail 14 Determines Mileage for Fuel Surcharge Calculations
Princeton, NJ – September 10, 2007 – ALK Technologies, Inc. today announced the release of PC*MILER|Rail 14, the latest version of the rail industry’s essential routing, mileage and mapping software. ALK’s flagship product, PC*MILER, was individually selected by each of the North American Class I railroads to implement mileage based fuel surcharges as a result of the recent Surface Transportation Board (STB) mandate. For over 26 years, ALK has used PC*MILER technology in many traffic diversion studies, and a variety of costing applications. PC*MILER|Rail affords new functionality to meet the changing needs of the transportation community. PC*MILER|Rail 14 includes 240,000-miles of North American rail lines with 49,320 freight stations on 701 railroads, and more than 3,400 unique junction interchanges plus enhanced interline routing. Other features include:
Two supplemental connectivity products enhance the utility of PC*MILER|Rail 14. The first, PC*MILER|Rail-Connect, seamlessly interfaces PC*MILER|Rail routes, mileage and reports with all leading transportation and logistics management software systems. Within other software applications, users can calculate mileage for an origin/destination pair of locations with intermediate stop-off points, display PC*MILER|Rail maps, run state-by-state mileage breakdowns and generate detailed station reports. The PC*MILER|Rail-Connect Dynamic Link Library (DLL) is designed to fulfill all the routing and mileage reporting needs of custom development applications, such as Visual Basic and Borland C++ based applications. It also enables users to easily access PC*MILER|Rail mileage information and mapping functions from within Microsoft Office Excel. The second product, PC*MILER|BatchPro, enables users to automatically summarize empty, loaded, and total mileages by equipment ID, railroad, or state and province for a large number of rail movements. Users can process large volumes of origin-destination locations using a variety of geographic codes (identifiers) including city/state names, SPLC’s, FSAC’s, ERPC’s (3-3-3s) and R260 junction codes.
