1. Will CoPilot 2001 run on Windows XP?

Yes, CoPilot 2001 will run on Windows XP.

After installation, the first time you plug in your USB GPS unit it recognizes the New Hardware. A warning message pops up explaining the drivers are not compatible with the Windows XP OS and will ask if you want to Continue or Cancel the installation. If you click Continue the drivers will install and the program will work fine. Continuing with the installation will not harm your computer despite the warning message.

If you click Cancel you will need to take some additional steps to get the drivers installed. NOTE: Make sure your GPS receiver is not connected to your computer during this process.

  • Go to your desktop and right click on My Computer
  • In the System properties box click on the Hardware tab.
  • Next click on the Device Manager tab.
  • Click on the + sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers. In the list you will see GPS sensor for CoPilot listed and the icon should have a exclamation mark in yellow. Click on the line that says GPS Sensor for CoPilot and click Remove.
  • Insert your Installation CD and close the Installation window when it pops up.
  • Next plug your USB GPS unit back in and the Found New Hardware Wizard box should come up.
  • Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click Next.
  • Make sure there is a check mark in the box Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM...) and click Next.
  • When prompted with the warning error please click Continue with installation.

Click Finish to complete the installation process.
