1. CoPilot will not speak to me or recognize my voice. When I look at the Preferences under the Edit menu, the "Speak Feedback Out Loud" and "Listen For Voice Commands" options are grayed out. How can I fix this?

  1. Did you install the voice software? To check, please do the following:
    1. Go to My Computer and double click.
    2. Go to Control Panel and double click.
    3. Go to Add\Remove Programs and double click.
    4. Scroll down the list and see if "Watson 2.1" is listed.
      • If it is listed, it has been installed properly and you should move to section II below.
      • If it is not listed please insert the install CD (disk 1 of 2) into your CD ROM drive.
        • Once the CoPilot 2002 opening window pops up double click on the "Install Speech" option.
        • Once you double click on this option an Installation Wizard will appear to guide you through the process.
  2. Next we need to diagnose the problem.
    1. Go to START...Settings...Control Panels…WatsonASR 2.1 Configuration.
    2. Next click on the button labeled "AutoGain Wizard".
    3. Next click "Start" and the AutoGain Wizard will automatically run through a test procedure
    4. If the AutoGain Wizard both speaks AND listens, then the problem lies within CoPilot. If the AutoGain Wizard doesn't speak OR listen, then the problem lies in the hardware
  3. To check the settings in CoPilot 2002 follow the directions below.
    1. Open the CoPilot 2002 program.
    2. Click on Edit, Preferences in the menu.
    3. Next click on the Speech tab.
    4. Make sure there is a check mark in the box labeled "Speak feedback out loud".
    5. Next check the Device being used. If you have more than one device in the drop down list you may need to change the device. If you have more than one device listed you may need to change it several times before finding the proper device. Once you change the device click on OK and close the program.
    6. Next open CoPilot 2002 back up and test the speech commands.
  4. Finally, run Watsoncheck.exe to check the Hardware.
    1. You can find Watsoncheck.exe in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Watson21\Bin
      • Double click on My Computer
      • Double click on your C: drive.
      • Double click on the Program Files folder
      • Double click on the Watson21 icon
      • Double click on the Bin folder
    2. Once you've located Watsoncheck.exe, double click on the icon and the "AT&T Watson Install Check" window will open.
    3. Click on the "Check" button and a report will be generated in the "Check summary" window.
    4. Once the check is completed, please copy and paste the entire log file from the "Check summary" window into an e-mail and e-mail it to our technical support team.
    5. The technical support team will review the log file, diagnose the problem, and contact you.
