3. Does CoPilot 2003 work with Windows XP?

CoPilot 2003 will run on Windows XP. When installing the drivers for the USB GPS unit a warning message pops up explaining the drivers are not compatible with the Windows XP OS and will ask if you want to Continue or Cancel the installation. If you click Continue the drivers will install and the program will work fine. Continuing with the installation will not harm your computer despite the warning message.

NOTE: If you click Cancel you will need to take some additional steps to get the drivers installed: Make sure your GPS receiver is connected to your computer during this process.

  1. Unplug the GPS receiver from the USB port and then plug it back in. You should see a message down at the bottom that says "New hardware found." Make sure all connections leading to the GPS unit are secure. There should be no metal visible between the adapter and the GPS unit. You may have to forcefully push the connections together to make them secure.
  2. Click on Start, All Programs, TravRoute CoPilot 2003.
  3. Click on GPS Tools.
  4. This will begin the installation process.
  5. When prompted to Cancel or Continue Anyway with the installation click Continue Anyway.
  6. When the installation has finished you can now begin to use CoPilot 2003.

Hints: If you computer is making a beeping sound the connections leading to the GPS receiver are not secure. You may have to forcefully push them together to make the connection secure. If you start CoPilot 2003 and it says "No GPS receiver attached" follow the instructions below.

  1. Click on Start, Control Panel, System.
  2. Click on the Hardware tab.
  3. Click on the Device Manager button.
  4. Click on the + sign next to Ports.
  5. Under Ports there should be a listing "USB-HID -> COM Device(COM3)." The com number may be different. If not follow steps 1-6 above. If so please continue to follow the directions below.
  6. Insert your Install disk.
  7. Click on Start, My Computer.
  8. Right click on your CD-rom drive and select Open.
  9. Double click on the Driver Tools folder.
  10. Double click on the Portcfg folder.
  11. Double click on the PortCfg.exe file.

The application will begin to scan your Com ports. Once the GPS is detected you will receive a message stating what Com port he GPS was found on. You can now begin to use CoPilot 2003.
