CoPilot will not recognize my USB JCOM GPS receiver? (To tell
if you have a JCOM receiver, look at the bottom and you should see this
number (19 CFR 134).
There are updated drivers for the JCOM receiver. Please follow the directions
below to install the new drivers:
I. Update Driver Installation Instructions:
- Close CoPilot and make sure the GPS receiver is connected.
- Click on Start->Settings->Control Panel
- Click on the "System" icon - *Note, if you are using Windows
XP, and you do not see a "System" icon, then you will need
to click on "Switch to Classic View" at the top left of the
window.
- Click on the "Hardware" tab.
- Click on "Device Manager" button
- Look for one of the below devices that will be flagged with a yellow
exclamation point. Right click on the one you have and select Uninstall
or Remove:
CP2101 USB to UART
Bridge Controller
USB Device
USB Device Unknown
- Once the device has been removed from then list, disconnect the GPS
receiver
- Restart the computer. Make sure the GPS receiver is disconnected when
you restart the computer.
- Download the updated drivers by clicking
here
- Save the file to your desktop.
- Locate and double click on the file to automatically install the updated
drivers.
- Connect the GPS receiver and wait 1 minute while the new drivers are
automatically installed.
- Open CoPilot. *** If Copilot does not recognize the GPS receiver,
click on the "Find GPS" button.
- If CoPilot still does not see the GPS receiver, please see section
II. below.
II. CoPilot still does not see my GPS receiver after updating the drivers.
- Close CoPilot
- Click on Start->Settings->Control Panel
- Click on the "System" icon - *Note, if you are using Windows
XP/Vista, and you do not see a "System" icon, then you will need
to click on "Switch to Classic View" at the top left of the
window.
- Click on the "Hardware" tab.
- Click on "Device Manager" button
- In the Device Manager, locate the heading "PORTS" and click
the "+"
- Locate the GPS Receiver device and make note of the COM port number
it is set to.
Example:
"USB to GPS (COM6)"
Or
"CP2101 USB to UART Bridge Controller (COM3)"
- Close the device manager
- Open CoPilot
- Click on Menu->Settings->GPS->Setup GPS
- Choose USB and click Next
- Choose Manual and click Next
- Set the "GPS Com Port" to the number listed in the Device
Manager.
- Click on "Finish" to accept the changes and begin using CoPilot.
