I want to change my Language and Speech options on my Pocket PC CoPilot, but the buttons are grayed out.

Note - This has been fixed in the latest patch for Copilot Pocket PC 6. Please click here for the update and then follow these directions.

Currently Copilot can only switch between the Male and Female Pre-Recorded files and not the Text-to-Speech files. You will only have the option to switch between pre-recorded files if you have NOT installed the Text-to-Speech files.

If you would like to switch to the Pre-Recorded speech files, please follow the steps below:

  • Uninstall Text-to-Speech
    1. On the Pocket PC, click on Start->Settings->System Tab->Remove Programs
    2. Locate "Pocket Speech" and select "Remove"
    3. After it has been removed, perform a soft reset.
    4. The next time you open CoPilot it will default to the Male Pre-Recorded files and you will have the option to change the Language and Speech options.

If you would like to switch back to the Text-to-Speech files, please follow the directions below:

  • How to install Text-to-Speech:
    1. Connect your Pocket PC to your desktop via Microsoft ActiveSync
    2. On your desktop, open My Computer and browse to C:\Program Files\CoPilot\PocketPC6\CEQStart\English
    3. In the English folder there will be two Text-to-Speech installation Cab files:
            a. TTSUS_M.cab - Male Text-to-Speech
            b. TTSUS_F.cab - Female Text-to-Speech
    4. Right click on the Male or Female Cab file you would like to install and select Copy
    5. Open the Microsoft ActiveSync window and click the Explore button
    6. Browse to \My Pocket PC\My Documents
    7. Click on the Edit menu and select Paste to copy the Text-to-Speech installation file to the Pocket PC
    8. Once the file has been copied, go to the Pocket PC and click Start->Programs->File Explorer
    9. Browse to \My Device\My Documents
    10. Locate and tap on the Text-to-Speech file you chose in Step 3 to install.
    11. Once the installation is complete, you will now have Text-to-Speech the next time you open CoPilot.
