Can I import Mexican postal codes as custom places in PC*MILER?

Yes. Note that for Postal Codes that are duplicates of US ZIP codes you will lose access to the US ZIP codes when you do this process. However, you can still route to these US cities by entering the city and its 2-character state code.

PC*MILER (pcmwin32.exe) can import Excel 4 or Tab Delimited Text files. You will need two columns in your import file: Postal Code and the latitude/longitude coordinates for that Postal Code. Or, if you do not have latitude/longitude coordinates you can have the city name in one column and the Estados code in a second column.

To import the Mexican custom places:

  1. Run PC*MILER.
  2. Click the Tools pull-down menu and choose ‘Import Custom Places’.
  3. Browse to your import file.
  4. Configure the import by clicking on the column headings. You will be bringing the Postal Code in as a ‘Name’.
  5. After you configure, hit ‘OK’ to import.
  6. Hit the ‘Options’ Button
  7. Make your choice for ‘Existing PC*MILER Places’
  8. You will experience numerous conflicts (duplicates) with US postal codes, you will have to decide if you want the Mexican or the US. Hit the Add button to add the new custom places.

Your new Custom Places get stored in the following files in the Options folder of your PC*MILER installation (normally C:\Program Files\ALK Technologies\PMW190\NA\ Options):

aoCatTyp.dat
aoPoi.dat
aoPoi.fts
aoPoi.gdx
aoPoi.nms
aoPoi.tdx
aoPoi.tst
aoTyp.dat

Or if you have a Multiuser Installation and you chose to share routing options the files will be in \Pmw190\Na\Options.
