PC*MILER: Updates & Patches

Between version releases, updates and patches are periodically made available to users.  These may include corrections to reported errors in the software or data, provide quarterly data releases (for applicable products), or include mid-year enhancements.  Provided you are connected to the Internet, you can easily check for available updates and install by:

  • Installing them from within PC*MILER: simply select Check for Updates in the Help menu through the Updater Tool
  • Manually checking for updates on this webpage (or by navigating to the version of choice in the Website Support Center) to see if an update is available
  • NOTE: It is not necessary to download the update both through the Updater Tool and here on the website, choose one location as the files contain the same information.

Before an update begins:

  • Close all open instances of PC*MILER. If you have a third-party program open that accesses any PC*MILER component
    (e.g. PC*MILER|Connect or PC*MILER|Mapping), please close them before continuing.
  • Open PC*MILER 23 Interactive and in the top tool bar go to Help > Check for Updates and follow the instructions on your screen.
    (This step requires an Internet connection.)
  • There will be a delay after you click on 'Check for Updates'. It will then show the update files that are available.  Next, highlight the item in list to be downloaded and click on 'Yes'.  There will be another delay while it downloads the update's files.  You can verify that the update is running by checking the Task Bar by the clock.  In the Task Bar you will see a small icon as shown below:




  • NOTE: For Workstation Installs, in order to keep all of the workstations in synch with what is running on the server, simply restarting the instance of PC*MILER 23 on each workstation will perform the update for that workstation based on what was done to the server.

Update Version 23.0.0.7

This update includes the following:

  • When changing font sizes in reports, printed reports now accept the custom style changes saved.

  • After changing Default Option settings and then exiting the program, the error message rendered on some machines has been corrected.

  • For those who received custom patches provided to you by ALK, the trip.dll mismatch has been corrected.  This mismatch rendered an error/crash when trying to resequencing stops in a route. This fix will also ensure that mileage generated in v23.0 will match mileage generated in v23.1.

  • The routing restriction that was applied to Interstate 40 in western North Carolina has been lifted.  This segment of roadway was originally closed in late 2009 due to a rockslide that buried the interstate.

  • Custom Place Manager now sorts names in alphabetical order
  • In the Detailed Route Report
    • The instruction of “road split” ("Rd split, cont.") was removed
    • Calculation errors surrounding driver break time settings were corrected
  • Enhanced street-level address geocoding results in better interpretations of address ranges on a road
  • Synonym table was updated to accept PALMS/PALM and PLAINS/PLNS
  • In PC*MILER-AS/400, custom places are now accessible
  • In the Intermodal Analysis template (accessible through PC*MILER|Spreadsheets)
    • The origin/destination ramp search fields will now accept searches more than 100 miles away from the origin and destination
    • Mileage calculation corrections were made for the Truck Type selection of 53-Foot
  • In PC*MILER|Connect
    • Enhancements were made when geocoding street-level addresses
    • When geocoding Intersections, results rendered now match Interactive’s results
    • PCMSGetMatch now returns the same format string for custom places as it did in v22 
    • Partial ZIP Codes consisting of 3-digits can now be accessed when geocoding
  • In PC*MILER|Mapping
    • The ability to change route colors was added
    • Enhancements were made to the order of the route drawer in relation to point drawer, place drawer, stop drawer, city drawer and shield drawer
    • Scrollbars and mouse wheel functions are now accessible in the map window
    • Style settings when plotting route lines are now consistent
    • PCMGDeletePinMapEx and PCMGDeleteTripEx now clear pins and route lines from the map properly
    • When setting OverlapIcons to off the map now properly refreshes the point drawer
    • Better control of size parameters is now available when drawing circles and boxes
  • In PC*MILER|Spreadsheets, for Excel 2007 users, the testing code was removed which now results in fewer lines of code being run
  • In PC*MILER|BatchPro:
    • Output files can now be saved in ASCII format
    • When running batchw32.exe, corrections were made when passing the parameter “pcmbatch.cfg”
    • Using the relative or absolute path to specify the location of the pcmbatch.cfg file is now acceptable
    • In pcmbatch.cfg, errors were corrected when setting "ErrorsInLogOnly" =1 or =0

  • On the RouteMap, a fix was implemented surrounding the drawing of route lines
  • In PC*MILER|Connect, a formatting fix was incorporated into PCMSGetFmtMatch()

Before downloading any update version listed below, you must first apply the Updater Tool Patch.

Please follow these steps to download the Updater Tool Patch. You will only need to follow these steps once. Save the updater_patch.exe listed below to the computer(s) where PC*MILER 23.1 is installed and double click on the file. It will install the files to the correct location. Please note that this download includes a new pcmwin32.exe and will overwrite the existing file.

Note for Workstation Installs: All server installs must be updated first before updating workstation installs. After downloading updater_patch.exe on the server, you must run the...\Pmw230\network\setup.exe on each individual PC.
