PC*MILER: Updates & Patches

Between version releases, updates and patches are periodically made available to users. These may include corrections to reported errors in the software or data, provide quarterly data releases (for applicable products), or include mid-year enhancements. Provided you are connected to the Internet, you can easily check for available updates and install by:

Installing them from within PC*MILER: simply select Check for Updates in the Help menu through the Updater Tool
Manually checking for updates on this webpage (or by navigating to the version of choice in the Website Support Center) to see if an update is available
NOTE: It is not necessary to download the update both through the Updater Tool and here on the website, choose one location as the files contain the same information.

Before an update begins:

Close all open instances of PC*MILER. If you have a third-party program open that accesses any PC*MILER component
(e.g. PC*MILER|Connect or PC*MILER|Mapping), please close them before continuing.
Open PC*MILER 24 Interactive and in the top tool bar go to Help > Check for Updates and follow the instructions on your screen.
(This step requires an Internet connection.)
There will be a delay after you click on 'Check for Updates'. It will then show the update files that are available. Next, highlight the item in list to be downloaded and click on 'Yes'. There will be another delay while it downloads the update's files. You can verify that the update is running by checking the Task Bar by the clock. In the Task Bar you will see a small icon as shown below:

NOTE: For Workstation Installs, in order to keep all of the workstations in synch with what is running on the server, simply restarting the instance of PC*MILER 24 on each workstation will perform the update for that workstation based on what was done to the server.

This update includes the following items:

Q2-2010 U.S. ZIP Code quarterly update, adding 12 new ZIPs to the database.
The posting of a new truck restriction announced by the Minnesota Department of Transportation to I-35 in Duluth, MN, relating to a truck detour due to a road improvement project continuing until the end of 2010. For more information on this restriction, click here. (When the route restriction is lifted by the MN DOT, users will be notified to download a new file to lift the restriction from the database.)

NOTE: If the Updater Tool does not work, please download the self-extracting update file posted below and save it to the C:\Program Files\ALK Technologies\PMW240\app\download\updates\pcmiler folder then run it. If you are only downloading updates directly from the Website Support Center (not through the Updater Tool), please be sure to download all previously released updates for this version prior to installing this update.

TECHNICAL ISSUE:

We are experiencing technical difficulties with this update. We are working to correct this issue and expect to have the update posted early next week. All users will be notified when the new file is available.

If you have already downloaded 24.0.4.0, as a temporary fix please follow these instructions to revert back to the original file:

Exit PC*MILER and any other PC*MILER products that are open or are interfacing with PC*MILER Interface Modules.
Assuming that you installed this update to the default directory (C:\Program Files\Alk Technologies\PMW240\...), go to C:\Program Files\Alk Technologies\PMW240\NA\Cities\PRE_24.0.4.0
Select all of the files in this folder and do Ctrl+C or Copy command to copy all of the files in this folder
Go to C:\Program Files\Alk Technologies\PMW240\NA\Cities
Execute Ctrl+V or Paste command and overwrite the files in the Cities folder. You will now be reverted back to the original file.

Thank you for your patience. All users will be notified when the new file is available.

Update Version 24.0.3.0

This update includes the following items:

The File > Print Report menu is now enabled when a route has been run or a report window is selected as the current active window (#28816)
When displaying a route for the first time on the RouteMap it will now display faster (#29836)
When avoiding/favoring roads you can designate roads that have ‘I’, ‘US’, ‘County Hwy’, or State/Province abbreviation preceding the road number (#25003)
Results generated in the Road Type Report now reflect the actual route that was processed, not a previously generated route’s results (#29219)
When in Split Screen mode, scroll bars have been added to the report windows without having to click
on the report to see the scroll bars (#29098)
For Custom Places:

When geocoding Custom places created in the older versions of PC*MILER, the Route window will now be able to geocode those locations (#29034)
In the Custom Place Manager when adding a location with the same name, the system will report an error as a different names are necessary (#29257)
In the Custom Place Manager when importing places, the “Save Column Order” now allows users to save custom settings (#29257)

In PC*MILER|Spreadsheets:

The memory allocation issue when calculating drive times using the =DriveTime formula for more than 5,000 rows has been corrected (#29136)
In the Intermodal Spreadsheet, a new intermodal ramp has been added in Titusville, FL (#29841)
The application now recognizes 3-digit ZIP Codes as such and does not try to interpret them as a 5-digit ZIP Code (#29157)

In PC*MILER|Connect:

The version number of each ALK DLL is now delimited in periods (#29601)
Addressed and fixed crashes that have been occurring in a multi-threaded environment (#28838)
The pcmsock.exe memory allocation issues have been addressed and thread-safety has been improved (#29170)
=PCMSReduceTrip() has been updated to extract a lat/long and re-geocode it to find the nearest city. (#29051)
