2. When using my Pocket CoPilot 2.0 GPS Jacket Edition in the car it takes a long time to get a fix on the satellites. How can I improve the performance?
- Mount the unit so that it has a clear view of the sky.
- Wait for acquisition before starting to drive: It is sometimes difficult for the GPS jacket to acquire a signal when your car is moving and can take over 15 minutes if a strong signal is not present (if the signal is very weak and you are moving it may not acquire at all). By waiting for acquisition before driving you can usually get a signal in under 5 minutes even when the signal is weak; with a strong signal the GPS jacket will often acquire within 30 seconds if you aren't moving.
- iPAQs must also be mounted in an almost completely vertical position. PCP will not acquire if at too much of an angle or if left horizontal on your seat/dash. PCP cannot be mounted to passenger or side windows (limited line of sight from these positions).
- Make sure the time and date are properly set on your Pocket PC. To do so Tap on Start, Settings, System, Clock.
