8. When attempting to open Pocket CoPilot 3.0 I get the following error message "CoPilot has detected a prior version of data". How can I fix this?

If you are receiving the error message "CoPilot detected a prior version of data on your device. Please download the correct data" please follow the directions below.

I. Please check the following files and confirm their size.

  1. On your Pocket PC go to Start, Programs, File Explorer, My Device.
  2. In My Device tap on the folder Pocket CoPilot.
  3. Next in the Pocket CoPilot folder find the following files and confirm their size.
    Styles - 10.7 K
    Preferences - 238 B
    Map Views - 1.57 K
    Data - 1.19 K

If one of the files size attributes are different the file may have become corrupted. To correct this problem you need to uninstall the Pocket CoPilot program and reinstall using the Pocket CoPilot 3.0 patch.

NOTE: You do not need to delete your map data. You do not need to uninstall Pocket Speech.

  1. Directions if program was installed to Pocket PC main memory (Default Location)
    NOTE: You do not need to delete your map data. You do not need to uninstall Pocket Speech.
    1. Save the Pocket CoPilot 3.0 patch to your Desktop.
    2. To uninstall Pocket CoPilot please go to Start, Settings, System, Remove Programs.
    3. Select Pocket CoPilot from the list and then tap Remove.
    4. Next reinstall Pocket CoPilot to your Pocket PC using the patch.
    5. Connect your Pocket PC to your computer via Activesync.
    6. Locate the file on your Desktop right click on it then select Copy.
    7. In the Activesync window click on the Explore button.
    8. Next double click on the My Pocket PC icon.
    9. Next double click on the My Documents folder.
    10. Next Right click anywhere in the My Documents window then click Paste. This will copy the patch file and save it to the "My Documents" folder on your Pocket PC. Once the file has been copied down to your Pocket PC, disconnect your Pocket PC from your laptop/desktop.
    11. On your Pocket PC, go to Start,Programs,File Explorer, My Device.
    12. Tap on the "My Documents" folder and you will see the file that you just copied over from your laptop/desktop. Tap on this file once and it will automatically install the updated version of Pocket CoPilot.
  2. Directions if program was installed to Compact Flash card or SD Card.
    NOTE: The patch will not install to the CF card. For this you will need to perform a work around.
    1. Perform steps 1-12 above then follow the instructions below to copy the application to the compact flash card or SD card.
    Method 1: Via Activesync (Quickest method):
    1. Connect your Pocket PC via Activesync.
    2. In Activsync click on the Explore button and navigate to Mobile Device\My Pocket PC\Pocket CoPilot.
    3. In the Pocket CoPilot folder Right click and click Select All then Cut to cut all files.
    4. Go back to My Pocket PC and double click on the Storage Card folder.
    5. Double click on the Pocket CoPilot folder. Note: If you do not have a Pocket CoPilot folder you do not have data downloaded. Refer to Method 2 below.
    6. In the Pocket CoPilot folder Right click and click on Paste to Paste all files into the Storage Card\Pocket CoPilot directory.
    7. As an option you can delete the Pocket CoPilot folder off of the device memory as it will be empty.
    Method 2: On the PPC (Safest method): Note: If you have already downloaded data to your CF card it will be deleted. Please refer to Method 1 if you have already downloaded data.
    1. Connect your Pocket PC via Activesync.
    2. In Activsync click on the Explore button and navigate to Mobile Device\My Pocket PC.
    3. Right click on the Pocket CoPilot folder and select Cut.
    4. Go back to My Pocket PC and double click on the Storage Card folder.
    5. Right click in the Storage Card folder and select Paste.
    6. Download data to the storage card.

Getting the Pocket CoPilot icon to the Start menu
NOTE: Both methods may result in the shortcut not working on the PPC Start menu. If you get the message "CoPilot cannot be found" you will need to launch the application using the icon in the Pocket CoPilot folder on the storage card.

  1. Through File Explorer go to My Device\Storage Card\Pocket CoPilot
  2. Tap and hold the CoPilot file, select copy from the pop-up menu
  3. Through File Explorer go to My Device\Windows\Start Menu
  4. Tap the screen so a pop-up menu appears. Select Paste Shortcut. An icon will appear named Shortcut to CoPilot. (Note: Tap the space under the lowest icon to make sure you don't inadvertently launch a program).
  5. First, get rid of the old shortcut by doing a tap and hold on the Pocket CoPilot icon and selecting Delete.
  6. Tap and hold on the Shortcut to CoPilot icon and select Rename from the pop-up menu. The keyboard will appear and the name can be changed to Pocket CoPilot.
